Leah Gonzales (b.1988) is from Colorado Springs, Colorado, and now lives in Los Angeles, California. She received her BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art, majoring in Drawing, and her MFA in 2017 from San Francisco Art Institute, and by her commencement exhibit, her work had turned towards experimental ceramic sculpture. Commonly, her work grapples with contemporary social standards, issues, and ideologies through a surreal dark and whimsical landscape made up of femme characters, monsters, and goddesses. The art she creates is a narrative of what she may be personally facing with her body, love, sex, death, power dynamics, and spirit. She is a full-time studio artist creating mainly in ceramics and painting and is an Art Educator at Santa Monica College, California.
