Mini Interview with Katarzyna Pastwa

Tell us about your passion for fashion, how and when it started?
I was born and raised in Poland, which was found behind the Iron Curtain. Communism, in its cultural aspect, reflects gray, gloomy and uniform expression. Even as a child, inspired by clothes that sometimes came to us from the West, I drew my first designs. With time, I used the patterns and sewed ready-made creations. I think, to a large extent, it is in my genes. My grandparents had knitting, and my mother sewed on a machine at home. That innocent design would give me a sense of freedom and independence, as if I was coloring our contemporary gray reality. Undoubtedly, my passion was fostered by the atmosphere of Łódź, the city where I have lived since I was born and where I am currently creating my own brand. Łódź is the Polish capital of fashion, the entire history of which is related to the textile and clothing industry. It is also a city of women, modern art, Art Nouveau and creative industries.

Your creations celebrate women where passion, beauty, and female shapes are honored. What are the other inspirations for your creations?
First, it's sensuality. We teach the world through our senses. We are shaped by various stimuli that reach us. To paraphrase, you are what you wear. Your well-being depends on what you are wearing. Therefore, I make sure that our clothes, in addition to their basic, functional role, have a positive effect on the mental space by influencing the senses, and in a special way the sense of touch. I spend a lot of time choosing the right materials. They are supposed to enfold, caress, relax and surprise. In this way, I help to discover our sensuality again. I notice that our imagination is very poor in imagining how much comfort a good quality material can give us.
My next inspiration is nature, the harmony that prevails in it. We often want to create the world in our own way, while the world gives us so many proven models of good and beauty. Łódź, my city, is a pearl of Art Nouveau that draws from nature.

What are the stories you would like to share with your customers behind each creation?
Everything goes in cycles, aesthetics included. you see people get inspired and do their own twist on new or old things. No matter what decade your style comes. At the end of the day, it’s about getting out your expression in any form.
