"Designing is not just about creating something beautiful - it’s about creating something that truly fits and flatters."

Krasimira Kabaivanova, NIKKA PLACE
MINI INTERVIEW

What do you think are the most important skills for a fashion designer?
AI believe a fashion designer needs a strong technical foundation, but that’s only the beginning. Attention to detail, patience, and a deep understanding of the human body and proportions are essential. Designing is not just about creating something beautiful - it’s about creating something that truly fits and flatters. Equally important is the ability to really listen to the client. Understanding their needs, lifestyle, and how they want to feel in the garment makes all the difference.

How do you handle criticism of your designs?
I see criticism as valuable feedback rather than something negative. It gives me the opportunity to grow and refine my work. Constructive feedback helps me improve both the technical precision and the creative direction of my designs. I believe that staying open and willing to learn is essential in this industry - there is always room to evolve.

What's your favorite material to work with?
Wool is one of my favorite materials to work with. I love it for its natural structure, durability, and timeless elegance. It holds its shape beautifully and allows me to create pieces that feel both refined and long-lasting. There’s something about wool that combines strength and softness in a very balanced way, which makes it incredibly inspiring to design with.

What's the most expensive material you've ever used in a design?
Some of the most valuable materials I’ve worked with are high-quality natural wools and specialized fabrics sourced from European manufacturers. These textiles stand out not only because of their price, but because of their exceptional craftsmanship, structure, and longevity. For me, true value lies in the quality of the fabric and how it elevates the final piece.

What's your favorite type of clothing to design?
I especially enjoy designing structured skirts and coats. They allow me to fully express the silhouette and highlight true craftsmanship. With structured pieces, every line, seam, and proportion matters, which makes the design process both challenging and incredibly rewarding. I love how these garments can shape the body and create a strong, confident presence.
