RUIBUILT is the groundbreaking, genderless clothing label founded in 2019 by Shanghai-based designer Zhou Rui, the first Chinese recipient of the prestigious 2021 LVMH Prize. Zhou, a graduate of Parsons School of Design in New York, views garments as a “second skin”—delicate and intimate, yet resilient. RUIBUILT’s pieces, especially its iconic bodysuits, embody this philosophy with striking, sculptural designs that balance strength and fragility. Loved by global icons like British pop star Dua Lipa and South Korean singer-model Hyuna, RUIBUILT champions inclusivity and body positivity, reimagining modern elegance through an inclusive, avant-garde lens that resonates on a global stage.
"The combination of balance and creativity fuels my passion."
How would you characterize your approach to design?
RUIBUILT’s collections are a study in imperfection. Our work often plays with tension—it's fragile yet soft in its feel and form.
What significance do gender and fashion hold for you?
Our brand is rooted in gender fluidity. From the beginning, we never aimed to cater to a single type of person. Instead, we see our designs as a way for anyone to express their individuality and deepen their self-awareness.
How do you see your designs connecting with the body?
I want my pieces to promote body positivity, encouraging people to embrace and value their unique selves.
What aspect of fashion design do you find most thrilling?
The combination of balance and creativity fuels my passion.
What’s the ideal moment to wear a piece from RUIBUILT?
Whenever you feel ready.
