"I love creating clothing for people’s highlights and the events or trips they have been looking forward to."

Mara McGinley, MARA THE LABEL
MINI INTERVIEW

How did you become interested in fashion design?
I became interested in fashion design through attending design school and wanting to create designs that people could incorporate into their lives, while also making them sustainable.

What's your favorite material to work with?
I like working with silk and linen the most. Those are the fabrics I use most frequently in my collections. I love the way silk moves on your body, feels, and looks.

What's your favorite type of clothing to design?
My favorite types of clothing to design are dresses and resort wear. I love creating clothing for people’s highlights and the events or trips they have been looking forward to.

How do you choose colors for your designs?
I love color. Currently, I work mainly with deadstock fabric. I choose colors by developing a moodboard and sourcing fabrics that align with it, then checking which colors are trending for the current season.

What's your favorite fashion city?
I will always romanticize London as my favorite fashion city, having studied abroad there for college. I love layering styles too, and London is unbelievably chic!
