US MERMAN

Founded in California by designer and master swimmer Edison Cortez, US Merman merges performance-driven swimwear with a distinctly fashion-forward sensibility. Drawing on more than two decades of experience spanning costume design and custom work for entertainment and athletic clients, Cortez approaches swimwear through the lens of movement, precision, and visual impact. Every collection is designed and manufactured in the United States using premium chlorine-resistant fabrics, four-way stretch nylon blends, UV-protective finishes, and anti-microbial performance materials engineered for both competition and leisure.

Inspired by the colors and textures of marine life, US Merman has developed a recognizable aesthetic centered on bold aquatic prints, sculpted racing briefs, mesh detailing, and streamlined silhouettes that balance athletic function with confident self-expression. The brand’s meticulous development process — with each style undergoing extensive testing and refinement — reflects its commitment to durability, fit, and technical excellence.

Positioned within the premium swimwear market, US Merman retail prices range approximately from $70–$85 USD, offering elevated designer swimwear for customers seeking performance, individuality, and contemporary American-made craftsmanship.

MINI INTERVIEW

How did you become interested in fashion design?
The movie The Mummy Returns first sparked my interest in fashion by showing me the power of costume design and visual storytelling. That interest evolved into fashion design as well.

What's your favorite thing about being a fashion designer?
The freedom to create anything that comes to mind and bring it to life.

What's your process for designing a new collection?
My process usually starts with inspiration from nature or something unexpected that captures my attention. From there, I focus on creating something that feels original.

What's the most challenging aspect of being a fashion designer?
Creating something truly new that resonates or inspires others. Something that sparks a thought, feeling, or emotion.

What's your favorite material to work with?
Silk Georgette is my favorite material because of its elegance, movement, and versatility.
