MASHAT

Led by a queer duo from Ukraine, Mashat is a genderless designer label that blends craftsmanship with futurism. Their motto "Vive La Routine" embodies Mashat's mission of adding festiveness to daily life, subtly interacting with the material world to embellish reality.

Sustainability is paramount to Mashat. Releasing items exclusively through pre-orders ensures no excess production, aligning with their commitment to a zero-waste approach. Nature-inspired upcycling techniques further underline their eco-conscious ethos.

Mashat sees clothing design as utilitarian art, merging wearability with conceptual depth. Termed "Artistic Casual," it addresses everyday wardrobe culture while delving into socially relevant themes. Their creations encapsulate the designers' vision of intertwining art with practicality in a way that resonates culturally and environmentally.

"To me, clothing design serves as a practical art form that is both wearable and conceptual simultaneously."

Tasha Labunskaya, MASHAT
MINI INTERVIEW

How did you become interested in fashion design?
I have been interested in it since my early childhood. I remember how, during primary school, I used to sketch clothing designs in class.

What’s your design philosophy?
It resides in the fusion of craftsmanship and innovation. To me, clothing design serves as a practical art form that is both wearable and conceptual simultaneously. Each collection is meticulously crafted to address socially sensitive topics and cultural phenomena.

What’s your favorite type of clothing to design?
Outerwear and dresses.

How do you stay inspired?
The daily rhythm of life and the interplay of its meanings and objects serve as my primary source of inspiration.

What’s your favorite type of collaboration?
It involves a partnership with artists. Take, for instance, the Artisanal Transformable Cape from our latest SS'24 collection, crafted in conjunction with Ukrainian textile artist Iryna Shostak Orlova. Each of these cover-capes is unique, meticulously handcrafted from upcycled materials as part of our conscious creation process.
