What do you think are the most important skills for a fashion designer?
Being observant. Observant to the details and placement of artwork, stitching, beadwork. Being observant in fit, style, flow - functionality. And importantly being observant with your clients/buyers. Actually listening, not just hearing their feedback, their asks.
How important is sustainability in your designs?
100% - Sustainability is not just woven into the product, it's in Voglia’s business ethos and extends to everything that we do. You can’t have a sustainable product and not live the lifestyle.
What advice would you give to someone interested in fashion design?
You need to find your purpose. This is more than the art. Why do you like to design? What do you wish to gain from designing, what’s your end goal? Owning and having tunnel-vision focus on your purpose will be be one of the most crucial foundations you need to establish for yourself.
What's the most sustainable material you've ever used in a design?
My most recent collection, I used a fabric called ‘Santaconstancia’ which is produced with 6.6 polyamide yard from Rhodia Solvay with a quick biodegradability in a landfill.
What's your favorite fashion film?
“Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter Is Dead”. Don’t laugh. Christina Applegate’s character & her style was everything I wanted when I was growing up. Not to mention, her working at a manufacturing company, to her pulling looks to produce her own fashion show! After the movie, I grabbed a pair of scissors and just started cutting up clothes! .
