Metal x Wire is a luxury jewelry brand dedicated to the celebration of self. Helmed by a self-taught mixed media artist with a BSc. in Architectural Engineering, Symoné Currie’s designs push the envelope of contemporary accessories through a delicate balance of elegance and edge. "I like to focus on the non-obvious. I believe in creating your own rules and approach to art in order to develop your own style. Given my background, I’m constantly challenging the boundaries of art and engineering, and ultimately, I aim to push the limits of jewelry and design. I am inspired a lot by impressionism and its radical techniques, and use that to fuel a lot of my own artistic pursuits "

MINI INTERVIEW WITH SYMONÉ CURRIE

Who is your style icon and why?
I cannot get enough of Bianca Jagger and Miss Robyn Rihanna Fenty. Both exude a curious sense of style that teeters the line of feminine and androgynous so effortlessly. Pulling off ultra sexy blazers and button ups with full glam is simply.

Describe yourself in a hashtag.
#ilovetacos.

When are you most inspired?
Art museums and art shows find me at my most mentally active state. As an artist myself, I embrace the idea that there is no such thing as an original thought - everything is simply an iteration of another earlier thought. Art museums and shows provide spaces to constantly showcase these evolving iterations that feed into my own iterations.

What makes you smile the most?
Going to the beach. Being in the presence of such a massive force that is the sea is incredibly grounding. It reminds me of my size in relation to everything else, which gives me such an overwhelmingly calming sense of joy.

How would you describe your artistic style?
I like to focus on the non-obvious. I believe in creating your own rules and approach to art in order to develop your own style. Given my background, I’m constantly challenging the boundaries of art and engineering, and ultimately, I aim to push the limits of jewelry and design. I am inspired a lot by impressionism and its radical techniques, and use that to fuel a lot of my own artistic pursuits.
