POP COUTURE

POP COUTUREpositions itself at the intersection of spectacle and craft, delivering high-impact garments that challenge conventional notions of luxury. Founded in New York and produced entirely in Queens, the brand draws its original creative impulse from a handwoven South American rug  translating its saturated color and tactile richness into a distinctive visual language.

Each piece is handmade, cut, assembled, and finished individually, resulting in subtle variations that reinforce the label’s commitment to uniqueness. POP COUTURE’s design codes center on exaggerated textures, sculptural silhouettes, and a fearless use of color, balancing softness with sharp, architectural lines.

While formal academic credentials or awards are not publicly emphasized, the brand’s identity is rooted in artisanal process and expressive freedom. Designed for statement dressing  from after-hours events to editorial settings  POP COUTUREappeals to those who approach fashion as performance. Retail prices align with contemporary luxury positioning, reflecting both craftsmanship and limited production.

"Clothes are not just about the person wearing them, but a reflection of the world we live in."

phil de lavan, POP COUTURE
MINI INTERVIEW

How did you become interested in fashion design?
I have always been interested in it – as a child, I loved browsing fashion magazines at the grocery store while my mother was checking out.

What's your favorite thing about being a fashion designer?
I love that every day is a little different and that I get to use my creativity daily.

What's your design philosophy?
Clothes can be a reflection not just of a person, but of society as well. I like to consider how my designs play into the world at large and what that means to the average person. So much of our daily lives is now spent looking at screens, and I want to create clothes that are more interesting than your phone. If you can’t see beauty in the world around you, I think there’s something wrong with our society.

How do you stay up-to-date with fashion trends?
When I was younger, I would have said Vogue or Elle, but now I prefer to wander the streets of New York City and see what people are coming up with.

How do you handle criticism of your designs?
People can react however they want – it doesn’t concern me. The people who wear my clothes know who they are and aren’t bothered by criticism.
