Meet the designer

Lilia Litkovska, LITKOVSKA

LITKOVSKA BY LILIA LITKOVSKA

LITKOVSKA is a Ukrainian brand founded in 2009 by designer Lilia Litkovska. The brand’s clothing label is always covered with another label – a plain white one – to symbolize that every garment is a fresh start, a new page of a new personal story for its wearer. The brand’s motto, “there is no wrong side”, translates to pieces that look beautiful from every angle and can often be reconfigured and worn in multiple ways. With her background in art history and a master’s degree from Kyiv Polytechnic Institute – Ukraine’s leading technical university – Lilia Litkovska has achieved recognition both in her native country and beyond. She is now showing her collections in Paris during the city’s official womenswear fashion week.

"“There is no wrong side” means that things we do and words we say don’t have a wrong side - they are the way you are. We care much about how the items look from inside and in each collection there is always a “reversible” item that can be worn both ways."

MINI INTERVIEW WITH LILIA LITKOVSKA

Tell us about your passion for fashion, how and when it started?
I come from four generations of tailors and have always wanted to preserve this profession and related crafts. In my brand, I’m integrating traditions into a modern context and strive to work ethically and sustainably. This is especially evident in the ARTISANAL line, in which all items are handcrafted and produced by local Ukrainian female artisans using the same techniques and equipment as a century ago.

What is your favorite time of the day?
“There is no wrong side” means that things we do and words we say don’t have a wrong side - they are the way you are. We care much about how the items look from inside and in each collection there is always a “reversible” item that can be worn both ways.

As for sources of inspiration - it could be everything: sun, wind, thoughts, books, creations, cities etc.

What is the biggest learning experience you have had?
Each day is to learn something - this is what I’m convinced of. Last year I launched an educational project for young designers - SCHOOLL - that is getting bigger and bigger with each season, and that will have about 10 courses from the autumn semester. I’m really inspired by working with young creative people; they are also my teachers.

What makes you smile the most?
My daughter, of course. We’re learning so much from children if we stay open-hearted.

What is the superpower you would like to have?
I would love to be present in each moment of my life, without time constraints like “past” or “future”.
