What do you think are the most important skills for a fashion designer?

As a fashion designer, I believe the most important skills include creativity, technical knowledge, and a strong understanding of fabric. Creativity allows us to envision designs that are both chic and timeless, while technical knowledge ensures that those visions can be brought to life. Additionally, understanding the properties of different fabrics—especially silk, which we prioritize—enables us to create pieces that are not only beautiful but also comfortable and sustainable.

What's your process for designing a new collection?

My process begins with inspiration, often drawn from art, nature, or even our customers’ lifestyles. I then sketch initial ideas and research current trends, always keeping in mind our commitment to timelessness and sustainability. After narrowing down the concepts, I focus on selecting fabrics—silk being a key choice for us—before creating prototypes. Fit and comfort are essential, so I seek feedback from a small group of trusted voices before finalizing the collection for production.

What's the most challenging aspect of being a fashion designer?

One of the most challenging aspects is balancing creativity with the practicalities of running a business. It can be tough to remain true to our vision while also considering market demands and sustainability practices. Navigating this balance to ensure our designs resonate with our customers while upholding our values can be a constant challenge.

How do you handle criticism of your designs?

I view criticism as an opportunity for growth. While it can be tough to hear negative feedback, I try to approach it with an open mind. I seek to understand the perspective behind the critique and evaluate whether there's merit to it. Constructive criticism can provide us valuable insights that help shape future collections, ensuring we consistently evolve while staying true to our brand ethos.

What's your favorite material to work with?

Without a doubt, my favorite material is silk. Its luxurious feel, natural sheen, and versatility make it a joy to work with. Silk drapes beautifully, allowing for designs that are both elegant and comfortable. We prioritize sustainable silk sources, aligning with our brand's commitment to eco-friendly practices. Working with this material empowers us to create timeless pieces that our customers will cherish for years.
