WJY STUDIO is a London-based fashion and jewelry design house rooted in a philosophy of freedom, emotional presence, and refined elegance. Founded by award-winning designer and Central Saint Martins graduate Jiaying Wang—one of China’s most recognizable fashion personalities—the brand merges artisanal craftsmanship with sculptural textiles, hand-engraved gemstones, and symbolic design. Each piece is thoughtfully handcrafted as a ritual object for the modern woman who values authenticity, intention, and sustainability. With a cross-disciplinary approach shaped by Wang’s experience as a designer, international model, and global educator, WJY STUDIO delivers timeless creations that nourish both spirit and senses.
"Design is not static. It’s a continuous conversation between vision, craft, and the world we live in."
1. How do you stay up-to-date with fashion trends?
For me, it starts with understanding lifestyle and people’s essential needs. Trends come and go, but what truly matters is how people live and feel. I also run my studio-shop in London, where I meet clients personally. Listening to them—how they wear jewellery, what they hope to express—becomes direct input for my designs.
2. What do you think are the most important skills for a fashion designer?
A strong and evolving sense of aesthetics is essential—it’s how we define our visual language. But just as important is the ability to solve problems: how to translate ideas into form, how to work within constraints, how to make something both meaningful and wearable. And finally, the willingness to keep learning—new techniques, new materials, new technologies. Design is not static. It’s a continuous conversation between vision, craft, and the world we live in.
3. What's your favourite material to work with?
Natural gemstones. Each one holds a unique story—formed over time, shaped by the earth, and full of energy. As a designer, I’m drawn to their individuality and imperfection. They’re not just beautiful materials; they carry emotion, symbolism, and spiritual depth, which allows my designs to connect more intimately with the wearer.
4. What's your favourite fashion city?
London, where I am living. Its diversity inspires me. It’s a city that allows everyone to try, to explore, to be different—and I value that freedom deeply.
5. What's the most important accessory in a wardrobe?
WJY designed Crystal rings and earrings. I believe they carry energy, and I often choose pieces based on how I feel that day. Earrings, especially, frame the face and shift the mood of a look instantly—whether subtle or bold, the size and shape can reflect your emotional state and intention.
6. How do you balance creativity with wearability in your designs?
I believe creative design doesn’t have to be complicated or unwearable. It starts with one strong idea—a clear focal point that brings character to the piece. From there, the design should flow naturally, allowing the wearer to feel both comfortable and confident. Wearability, to me, is not a limitation but an essential part of thoughtful, intelligent design.
