DOORS NYC Pop-Up Metaverse, Schmetaverse Opens Today

The DOORS NYC experiential pop-up ''Metaverse, Schmetaverse'' launched today at 27 Greene St, SoHo, NYC.
The DOORS NYC month-long NYFW pop-up showcases 45+ designers, 10+ up-and-coming artists, and 10+ beauty brands by Beautyque NYC. The pop-up will hosts an engaging event calendar from ‘’meet-the-designer’’ events to panel discussions on digital art, pre-New-York-Fashion-Week parties and styling events with social media influencers. The pop-up showcases both exciting digital and AI artists as well as artists working with traditional techniques, and fashion designers that 3D print items as well as designers that support local craftsmen and employ centuries-old traditions such as crocheting, embroidery and handknitting in their collections.
As the hype around the metaverse continues, brands are launching virtual collections and artists are embracing experiments with NFTs. Digital fashion and art offer ample possibilities for creative talent and community building. The metaverse is a compelling extension for physical fashion and art, and a unique way to engage with the younger consumer. It is here to stay, but so is physical retail. One does not preclude the other. Brick-and-mortar activations have immense value for emerging designers and up-and-coming artists to introduce their work to new audiences, build trust, and amplify their story.
The design of the DOORS NYC pop-up was developed by NY-based architectural design company Make Make (by Anna Bates) to avoid environmental waste. More than 300 yards of semi-sheer fabrics, traditionally used for raincoats, is used in the space to create an ‘’alternate world’’ sensation for visitors. After the pop-up, DOORS NYC will donate the material to Fashion Squads School, founded by the talented young fashion designer Layana Aguilar to teach children the craft of sewing in New York.
